Sweet and Tangy Chutney/Sauce

A simple sweet and sour chutney/sauce made with Karonda (Carissa Carandas).

Karonda

Carissa Carandas is a species of flowering shrub in the family Apocynaceae. It produces berry-sized fruits that are commonly used as a condiment in Indian pickles and spices. (source: Wikipedia).

It is rich in vitamin C, and is also known to have decent amounts of iron, potassium, and zinc.

Ingredients

  • Karonda – ¼ cup

  • Cilantro – 1 cup

  • Mint (Optional) – ¼ cup

  • Water – 2 tbsp. or as needed

  • Salt – ¼ tsp. or to taste

  • Sugar – 1 tbsp

Directions

  • Grind karonda to a thick paste in a grinder
  • Add other ingredients except water and grind
  • Add water needed, only add enough to aid grinding.
  • If using this as a dipping sauce, add about ¼ cup water.
  • Serve with your favorite food.
